Research at Faculty III

The research activities at Faculty III reflect the high diversity of the degree programs and the specializations of the faculty members through their thematic focal points.

An important link between the various research approaches is the close connection to practical applications, a focus on implementation measures, and a strong orientation towards knowledge transfer. In particular, the emphasis on the interfaces between theory, practice, and application promotes the transfer of scientific debates into society, with transfer being understood as a key driver of innovation in culture and society, as well as an essential component of a future-oriented education for students.

Connecting Research and Teaching

A central aspect of research at Faculty III is the connection between research and teaching. Research is not seen as the opposite of teaching, but rather as its prerequisite, complement, and an educational goal for students. Student involvement is therefore a key component of the research infrastructure. Good teaching relies on research activities in that the active participation of instructors in knowledge generation within their fields ensures that teaching remains up-to-date and can accurately respond to the needs of a rapidly changing social reality. Especially in the field of media, due to digitalization, new technologies, and the practices of interconnected digital cultures, adaptability and continuous realignment are essential for forward-looking teaching.
