The responsible and efficient handling of medical data plays a decisive role in the entire health care system. In this Bachelor's programme, information specialists of tomorrow learn the management, organisation, documentation, processing and statistical evaluation of information that accumulates in health care and clinical research.

Computer science, medicine, statistics, information research and documentation methods are essential contents of this future-oriented study programme. Students also learn to communicate successfully and to work scientifically. Additionally, they get to know the basics of business administration and management. The programme is divided into two study sections of three and four semesters respectively and currently offers three specialisation options, which are documented with a certificate: Methods of Medical Computer Science for Information Management, Documentation of Medical Care Processes for Quality Management and Controlling or Management of Clinical Studies and Statistics. The path to a career is prepared in a practice-oriented manner through projects, two intensive practical phases and application-oriented courses.

The study programme stands for a high degree of practical orientation. Practical exercises in small groups complement lectures and seminars. Project work, excursions and lectures by external lecturers from information practice ensure the connection to current developments in the industry. The two practical phases are also an important element. Medical documentation and information specialists carry a great responsibility, because further medical and business decisions are made based on their work results. Therefore, in addition to the necessary professional qualifications, the university also encourages the students' sense of responsibility in a health-oriented professional environment.

Without teamwork and communication skills, a successful career in the health professions is not possible - which is why the university offers students appropriate exercises.

In addition to imparting subject-specific knowledge, the development and promotion of students' social, cultural and personal competences is a priority in teaching. In this regard, students are encouraged and supported by a sufficient number of teaching staff. Guest lectures and workshops by professionals from theory and practice complement the knowledge offered by the degree programme.

In addition to functionally equipped seminar rooms, the facilities at Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts also include computer labs, a very well-equipped library as well as teaching and work rooms for students. E-learning methods support learning and working, especially in the home environment.

In the fourth semester, as an alternative to a practical phase, a study semester abroad can be completed in a degree programme corresponding to Medical Information Management at a partner university.

During their studies, students complete two internships in the health sector. The practical phases comprise five months in the fourth semester and ten weeks in the seventh semester.

The Bachelor's degree programme in Medical Information Management prepares prospective information professionals to work in hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, research institutions, health offices, software companies and large practices.

Medical documentalists and information workers are sought by pharmaceutical companies, clinics, research institutes and other health care institutions.

The Bachelor's programme in Medical Information Management is a full-time programme of seven semesters standard study time including two practical phases and the preparation of the Bachelor's thesis.

The Student Advisory Service at the Hochschule Hannover - University  of Applied Sciences and Arts advises all students and prospective students. It provides information about offer, content and structure of the courses.
